Possible improvement of speech in Parkinsons patients with the encouragement and implementation of a daily walking routine.
I reflect back now and realize that my
speech
problems
accelerated after my walking slowed down and became worse after that completely stopped. What is your experience?

I’m in speech therapy grad school, something I’ve worked towards for a VERY long time. I made so many sacrifices to be here and I got a C in a clinical experience. In my program you have to get a B to pass and move forward. I have to redo this clinical experience and any time I have a meeting for it

Vocal chord damage in thyroidectomy
Hi all, I had a total Thyroidectomy 2 days ago which was a difficult op. My thyroid had grown so large it was pressing on my larynx, growing downwards to my chest, and growing round the back of my oesophagus. In previous surgery for breast cancer 2 years ago they were unable to get the breathing tube

speech therapist questions
my mum will be visiting a speech therapist tomorrow, what are the areas you suggest the speech therapist should focus on? What questions do you think will be helpful?

Speech production technology
Has anyone tried speech production technology, such as Stephen Hawking used, for PSP patients? Was it successful or not? Our speech therapist is asking us to consider it since we cannot understand my husband any more. Thanks

My husband was diagnosed in early 2020 with MSA. The decline was rapid - he is now on PEG for feeds, intermittent urine catheter, flatus tube for bowel movement, and a tracheotomy with ventilator on at night He has speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy that fills up his days However

hi This is my first post, my husband 79 was diagnosed with PSP 18 months ago. My biggest frustration and upset is his apathy and lack of communication. We can have good and bad days and at hospital appointments he has proved he is able to communicate. It is just heartbreaking that he has no will or

Update on me
Before I go to visit Ralph this morning, thought I'd write a bit about me. I rang this morning to see how his first night was, he'd vomited a little which she said was due to the stress of the move, but then he was fine and slept well. Last night was the first decent sleep I've had since his operation

What a difference
Been a good day for him so far. He said he had a rough night coughing. He was in his chair dressed when I got there. Physio told him off and said you don't need the hoist now, use the pulley to get up and in the chair.Physio and speech therapist came to put tiny camera up his nose to look down his throat

Do you want to take part in research to help advance speech therapies for ataxias?
The University of Strathclyde and US company LSVT Global are recruiting for participants with Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) aged 18 or over to take part in an online one-to-one speech therapy study. The study will explore the use of a speech therapy treatment called LSVTArtic®, and the study will take place

Excellent speech/voice app for PWP.
FIrst a disclaimer - i am not associated in any way with the app i want to recommend, just a fellow 'parkie' looking for an app to help/complement my speech therapy. I was looking for something comparative with my speech therapy ( long vowels, functional terms, reading, improvized speech analysis..

Me again
Hi, here again. He's doing really well. He's out in the chair each day, still hoisted but he was trying to stand and they had to tell him no you're not strong enough yet. Monday he was in the chair when I got there and they didn't put him back to bed until I left. He was getting tired towards the end

Parkinson's Nurse update
Hi all, thank you for all your previous posts, they were most helpful. Since then we have had a few medical professionals visit. The Parkinsons Nurse is coming to see my father-in-law tomorrow. Is there any questions we need to be asking? The OT and Physio visited yesterday and recommended a new commode
