Dorzolamide, not lasting

Does anyone have problems with their dorzolamide not lasting long enough from prescription to prescription? I use 1 drop 3 times a day and find the bottle is only lasting approximately 22 days, causing problems with my prescriptions as I was told the drops should last at least 30 days. In case you’re wondering, I don’t squeeze the bottle hard nor do I have excess running down my cheek 😊.

Yes, I get the same, I get 2 x 5ml bottles, twice daily both eyes, and it only lasts for a month or maybe a day or 2 longer, I've just changed my nominated pharmacy, GP practice sent 3 x 2 month's scripts through, I'm on Repeat Dispensing and when I collected the first lot only had the 2 x 5ml bottles

Thanks for the reply. I spoke to my Surgery and they have done another prescription for me upping to 2 x 5 ml bottles. Phew worry over. 😀

Hi, like you I am on dorzolamide three times a day and could never get more then about 21 days out of each bottle, however since my consultant switched me to preservative free I no longer have this problem. I am not sure why but I suspect that it may have something to do with the fact that on each prescription I get the same brand, something that didn’t happen previously. Having the same bottle every time has made it so much easier to manage, the bottle itself is easy to use, the drop comes out easily without to much pressure so I feel in more control and using the same bottle each time has certainly helped and I easily go a month before it is finished.

Thanks for your reply, glad the amount of drops are now working out for you. I managed to get another bottle yesterday and my GP as now added the extra bottle to my prescription 😀

Yes I have had this problem too and not even lasting 21 days sometimes. Got stressed about it as was never sure how much was in. And would it run out before prescription refilled. Was solved by getting a double prescription one time so that I always have a box in hand.

Hello. Some generic drops leave the bottle quicker and more easily that branded drops so the drops are bigger and this may be the problem you and others are experiencing.The branded drop for Dorzolamide is called Trusopt and doesn't normally have this problem. It is also available as a preservative free option. These come in individual vials. It may be worth speaking to your consultant concerning the problem your having making the drops lasting the 28 days. I say 28 rather that 30 because that is the normally time expected for drops to last. The individual vials are only designed for one use but many people find it is enough for both eyes.
