Reaction to Dorzolamide/timolol

Hi has anyone had a reaction to the combination of eye drops dorzolamide/timolol? Had an emergency appointment last Friday due to intense daily pressure headaches, consultant has put me back on timolol once a day for one week, and then going to try combination drops twice a day again, to see if it is a reaction to the drops. I’m on Monopost last thing at night as well.

Hi Sunshine8888,I see you have had your emergency appointment, fingers crossed it is a reaction to drops and he can prescribe an alternative. Headaches are always a concern with glaucoma thank goodness you got an appointment.

You said last week your pressures had risen considerably and asked me about a trabeculectomy, did you mention trab to your consultant and if so what was his response.

Look after yourself.

Hi Witcher346 thank you for your reply. Whilst I was having intense headaches and seeing halos around lights, my pressures had reduced and no changes were detected inside my eyes. The consultant spent a long time examining my eyes and getting a second opinion so have a lot of confidence that it could be a reaction to the eye drops causing the headaches etc. I was able to ask lots of questions, and again she gave me the time and support to do it. So drops for the time being! The consultant is phoning me next Friday to see how I am doing on my old regime of drops, if I’m ok then it’s back to the new drops to see if I get the reaction again. Just hoping headaches don’t return however it’s the only way to find out. I’m just so grateful to my consultant and the support she is giving me. Thank you to you too 🙏

Oh your consultant sounds lovely, trusting and having faith in them is so important. She certainly was thorough and letting you ask questions and taking time to answer them gives you so much more reassurance. ,It's positive your eye pressures have reduced and no changes detected. Eye surgery is a last resort so your pressures being reduced by drops is preferable. Fingers crossed your old drop regime works and no more headaches. Let me know how you get on .

Hi Witchie now had two more telephone conversations with my consultant, headaches have gone! However they now want me to continue with timolol in the morning and Monoprost last thing, and then to take Iopidine twice a day, which of course I will. Just nervous as I feel so good without headaches at the present. I’m being referred also to consider cataract op in left eye to give more space and help pressure. It’s risky as I have bilateral pseudoexfoliation so a conversation to be had in a few weeks time. Hopefully meds will keep pressures down, although I do believe that it is better to have cataract op sooner than later with this condition. Hope all is well with you and thank you for your support x

Glad to hear from you Sunshine, I can understand your concern about your headaches returning as it's so lovely to be headache free. Fingers crossed that being back on more drops doesn't cause their return and that your pressures do stay low. As for cataract referral I assume your consultant has weighed up the risks of this operation in conjunction with your other eye condition. Definitely lots of questions to be asked and thought about, nothing is ever simple unfortunately. Will it be someone else carrying out actual surgery as opposed to your consultant? If so they will hopefully be able to address your concerns.

The actual cataract operation in itself is over in about 5/10 minutes and I found it pain free and all my fears prior to it completely unfounded.

Keep in touch n fingers crossed for you staying headache free .

Hi Nanatform my consultant was going to phone me this coming Friday however phoned on Monday to say she had researched my notes and found that in 2015 I also had a reaction to dorzolamide so looks like I won’t be going back on it. I too am on timolol and Monopost. I’ll let you know what happens on Friday when the consultant is going to phone me again. Must admit I feel so much better not being on dorzolamide so really hope there is another alternative.

Thank you for letting me know, you also have had a reaction like mine.I am really happy not having to put something in my eyes twice daily and having a really bad time with gritty red eyes.I don't know how long I will be able to last like this, hopefully forever. I
