morning all!!
I have RA and I’m booked in for my annual covid booster!my concern is that from day one I’ve always had Pfizer vaccine but apparently there not using it this time around and it’s been replaced with Maderna it just makes me feel uneasy as I never had any problems with Pfizer!!have any you guys had Maderna?and if yes did you have any side affects if so what where they?

Moderna is a better choice now. I had it and it was great. Actually it is much better for your immunity to change over from Pfizer to Moderna. I had 7 COVID 19 vaccines until now. Pfizer Pfizer Moderna Moderna Pfizer Pfizer Moderna.

I had it 2 days ago. I just had a sore arm, a bit of a sniffle and was a little more tired on the evening after having the jab. All better now.

Moderna has been found to have a better immune response compared to Pfizer’s. I had my vaccine yesterday, and other than a painful arm, I am fine. I’ve had a whole mix, haven now had number 9. I have adrenal insufficiency and some of the vaccines havd triggered low cortisol symptoms, but nothing to do with the vaccines

Had my booster last week and was actually given Moderna (Spikevax) despite being told by the nurse it was Pfizer. (I checked on the GP/NHS App a couple of day later.) I am pleased to get either but Moderna is said to elicit more of a powerful immune response, hence why some people notice it more. My arm was more sensitive than when I’ve had Pfizer’s (8 previous Pfizer’s and one Moderna) and I felt extra tired for 2-3 days which was what made me check re which booster. ) Small price to pay and the arm soon came back to normal. (Not a complaint .. I’m not a complainer re these things … just an observation! ) Good luck and I bet you’ll be fine. 🩷

Thanks for replying!..I have just checked on my NHS app and it says I had Moderna back in 2022 but I didn’t know I was told all was Pfizer!!but if it says one of them was Moderna it must have been don’t think they would be able to put other wise😊
I agree. Yes I think what is on the official record/App is what you’ve had. In my case, the nurse I had told me wrongly it was Pfizer. It wasn’t a nurse I know so think she was there for the clinic only. It also gives you the batch number on your record, which identifies the vaccine.
Hi, I had my Moderna jab on Tues am. I think I have had it at some point before, but more recently have had Pfizer and initially Astra Zenica (i.e. the 'Oxford' jab). I have to admit I did feel quite ropey this time round. My jab was at 11 am and totally painless. The nurse giving it said she was a paediatric nurse, which probably explains her gentle, pain free technique. Conseqently, the soreness in the vaccinated arm was pretty minimal. However, by about 9 pm I felt rather unwell and all my joints were aching and I felt slighly quesy. I took some paracetamol and went to bed. I had rather a rough night, but by 9 am ish, felt better - so the side effects were really for only about 12 hours. I didn't have a temperature this time though, whereas with my first ever jab ('Oxford' one), I did have one of around 38/100 by bed time, but as with this one, the side effects only lasted about 12 hours. I am fairly sure I didn't get much in the way of side effects when I previously had a Moderna jab apart from feeling very thirsty, so maybe this latest version had some new variant in it that caused that. Also though, I had a bad joint flare up after my first shingles jab in Jan/Feb and that took several weeks to settle down, although I still dont feel my joints are as good as they were prior to that jab. I was actually offered a 3 week dose of steroids to 'settle things down', but decided to just ride it out. Having said all that, I don't think the wet/damp late winter and early spring has helped matters. Anyway, sorry for rambling on, but I hope your jab all goes ok. Oh yes, major tip, drink loads of water! I felt incredibly thirsty after the jab, but at least managed to avoid a headache by drinking plenty of water.
I had Moderna last Thursday. Bit of a sore arm but otherwise fine.

No side effects but the sore arm.
I had it last week. A sore arm for a couple of days and I felt a bit under the weather the next day but it only lasted about 24 hours, and was very mild.
The Spikevax wea my tenth Covid jab. It was the first to give me sore arm. I followed advice of some rheumatologist and paused MTX for two weeks. GPs did not advise on this topic, I think?

It's better to have a mixture than having the same brand. I've had everything going with no problem.
I have not personally had Moderna but my cousin was seriously ill with hives following Moderna jab. I'm not having another jab now anyway but would be very uneasy about Moderna. Everyone is different but check out the known side effects.
I think doing your research is best, they are taking so many vaccines off the market now, because of side effects, good that Pfizer has been removed x

I agree with all that has been said. I had a sore arm and the first evening very tired...I slept for 10 hours. Two days of feeling a bit under the weather and then back to normal. Hope this helps.👍☕

Yes, my husband and I both had Moderna this time. I had no side affects at all this time, except for a sore arm for a day or two. My husband had a short shaky episode during the night but was absolutely fine. Take care, K.
Sore arm, nothing else. Can't guarantee won't have reaction though, nothing is 100% as we have always been told about all the vaccines. I've had ten now.
Very sore arm flu like symptoms for 2 days felt very unwell ! 5 days later contracted covid ! Symptoms just like a bad cold .. cant win it seems !
The vaccines don't stop you getting COVID but it just stops you being really unwell with it
Has anybody else decided not to have any more Covid vaccines? I had the 2 initially but only because you couldn’t travel without them. I’ve had Covid at least 3 times, not nice but recovered ok. I appreciate though, it can be very serious for some.

I had 2 wouldn’t have no more I had covid twice no more for me I’m 61 but I did read that the covid injection is killing the immune system in the body not sure how right that is just something I read
I'm not having this one, I also read its messing up your immune system, they are not giving vaccines every 6 months in Europe. I had covid in 22 but I will have a yearly one with the flu vaccine I think.

hi my birthday1975 yes my RA is more or less under control, I'm on methotrexate and sulfazalazine, bloods done 3 monthly no joint damage but can ache if overdue things like gardening . I consider myself fortunate that I don't have too many problems like some, my feet also give me pains most of time but I'm thinking nerve damage .

I have R A and I got osteoarthritis I’m waiting on a knee replacement as can’t walk very well my knee is like a balloon and in so much pain I would love to be able to have a good night sleep 🥲🥲🥲
I’m sitting on the fence atm.Notsure which way to topple! My booster is due in a few weeks. I usually end up having it though because of being immunocompromised because of meds withRA 🤦🏼♀️
as I said you have to do what is best for you I’m on Benepali injection and it my choice not to have anymore Covid jabs everybody to their own people can advice but it is down to your choice in the end think of your self not what others tell you xxxxx

Like you I prefer Pfizer vaccine and I was told that it wasn't available this year, I had the Moderna booster on the 25th April, no problems other than a headache on and off for about 3 days and of course a sore arm at the injection site..I was advised by a Rheumatology Nurse Specialist not to take my methotrexate for 2 weeks after the vaccination..
I’ve had both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines and both were fine for me with no side effects whatsoever.

I will have my 9th vaccine soon, and at my rheumatology appt 2 weeks ago, the doctor told me that it is no longer advised to miss mtx doses. I see in this thread quite a few of you have been told otherwise?

Hi. I had the Moderna vaccination yesterday lunchtime. I felt quite tired last night (but wasn't sure if it was the vaccine or the warm weather !) and have a bit of a sore arm today and a bit of a cold sore coming but otherwise ok
yes I’ve had Maderna a couple of time, only effects I experienced were feeling weak and tired for a few hours later the same day.
I’m booked in for mine tomorrow but not sure which one it will be. I normally get a sore arm for a few days so hopefully that’s all that will happen 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Although I was fine after the first two Pfizer injections I was pretty ill after my 3rd, even had Myocarditis which was terrifying . I have been unwell for a few days after the following ones but not as bad as that one. One was Moderna and I reacted the same to that as to the Pfizers. I am due my next in a fortnight and although I’d love to never have another as have had the full gamut and wonder if anyone really knows the effect of all these vaccines, I’ll probably go through with it it again. At 85 with heart issues and asthma I’ve had Covid once and survived which perhaps I wouldn’t have done without the vaccine. Who knows?
Hi I had my booster a fortnight ago tomorrow, it didn't hurt at all at the time. Later on though I did get the shivers and felt really ropey overnight. Sore arm and just felt wiped out, which I tend to feel wiped out with many things so that's not just because of the booster. Saying all that though, I always say don't want another booster etc etc BUT I'd rather not be hospitalised with Covid Pneumonia/SARS again 🫣

Hi yes had my Spring booster on Wednesday which was Moderna only side effects I have had is sore arm where injection was given, little fatigue and headache (drinking water to reduce) otherwise all fine. This is pretty much what I usually get from whatever booster I've been given. 🙂
I must admit, as a nurse myself, I’m disappointed that some of the nurses administering vaccinations hadn’t provided accurate information regarding which vaccinations they’d just administered. That’s bordering on negligence in my opinion. I suppose entering the batch number on the records confirmed the vaccine brand, but they really should have been aware of the brand they were using, especially with all the concerns that people have regarding side effects, etc. I’m off for my eighth one this afternoon. 👏🏻😁
I was told by the nurse doing the vaccine clinic last Friday that it was Pfizer I was having but when I saw my vaccine record on my NHS App it says Moderna! As you say, the batch number will identify which one you have had.
I had my vaccination this afternoon and the pharmacist told me it was Moderna, but as it hasn't popped up on my NHS app yet, I'm hoping he was right. ☺️

You’re right. You were misled, which is worrying when you consider the ongoing campaign for justice for the victims of the AstraZeneca vaccine. I was told it was Moderna just before the jab, which I appreciated, as I’ve had it before. I now wish it had been Pfizer though, as I only had a mild reaction, whereas the Moderna one I had yesterday has hit me with a sledgehammer! 🤯😵💫🤒

I’ve read that the Moderna vaccine is more powerful and potentially more effective than the Pfizer. It apparently triggers a stronger immune response than the Pfizer vaccine, so that might be why it causes more side effects. It’s been documented that the side effects are as follows:
More common
chills
difficulty in moving
headache
joint pain
muscle aches, cramps, pains, or stiffness
nausea
swollen joints
unusual tiredness or weakness
vomiting
I’ve had Covid several times and have always been relieved that I’m protected from a more severe infection, despite the side effects. 🙈 People are still being hospitalised, developing long-Covid and dying, but the numbers are much fewer than previously.

I have had all of them previously, including the Moderna, & not had a problem with any of them but I had my spring booster on Monday & was really ill for 2 days. I admit I did have a cold when I had the booster, so possibly it was the 2 things together that caused a problem.
I don't think you can predict it it's going to affect you because as the virus mutates they adjust the vaccination.
I have had Moderna several times with no side effects but this time has made me feel like I have been hit by a bus. It may be that I had it the day after my infliximab infusion but I checked with my infusion nurses who said that was OK. Good luck.

Hello, just to well I had the jab last Tuesday and the only reaction I've had is a bruised arm. That is probably due to the fact I take anticoagulants so I bruise easier than most.Depending on what drugs you are taking but you are probably safer having the Moderna than not having anything. However whatever you choose I wish you luck and all goes well.
I do hope that they have not stopped using Pfizer. I am not allowed to have Moderna at all. I have been told this by all specialists as it contains Live copy of Covid and I have no immune system due to meds. I have had Three different versions of COVID VIRUS the last one was two weeks ago and I was very ill. Many of friends had Moderna and they have been ill with it.
