Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had a really raised temperature on Desogestrel? I have been on Desogestrel for nearly 3 months. Whilst on it I have continued to have spotting on a off throughout, which has been a pain but not a massive inconvenience.

I had surgery on the 17th March and on the 27th March I started feeling unwell (temperature, chills, body aches). Obviously due to Covid19 I thought it could be that but I also contacted my G.P incase if was an infection from my surgery. I was prescribed two lots of antibiotics for 2 weeks. After this I noticed one of my wounds hadn't healed so that was needing to be packed but it wasn't infected and the antibiotics I was on covered a wound infection anyway.

I had my bloods done just under 2 weeks ago which showed high white cell count and lymphocytes I was advised to carry on working from home (I am a nurse but can work from home in my job). I had a Covid19 swab but possibly too late which could have given a false negative (having bloods done again this week). My consultant also doesn't believe it is anything from my surgery.

My temperature has continued to fluctuate and I am having hot sweats and chills (especially at night) and my body is aching still and (sorry for TMI) on and off days of really bad diarrhoea.

I'm thinking it surely cannot be Covid19 to be lasting this long so am now thinking of other possible causes.

Is it my endometriosis/ adenomyosis?

Is it Desogestrel?

Is it Covid19?

Is it something else to add to my list of ailments?

If anyone has experienced this then please let give me any advice... I don't even remember being this bad with my temperature changes when I was on Zoladex...

Thanks in advance!

xx

Hi

If the white cell counts up doesn’t that point to infection?

Have you spoken to the consultant/secretary about op?

I’ve tried desogestrol for a couple of months before op, but didn’t really make any difference.

Last year my temp was up and GP didn’t know what it could be, it was and all part of the pain and hormones.

After op in Feb, body fluctuated a bit and had bits of bleeding here and there. I did feel as though I wanted a full period around week and half before it came and feeling same this week as pain is increasing. Potentially due this weekend, even though on Zoladex.

If it’s possible try looking at your symptoms as though you had a patient in front of you, I find I forget the obvious at these times

Hope it’s not infection.

Thank you soo much for replying.

You would think so I suppose I will find out if my temperature is due to an infection if my bloods tomorrow show my white cell count is back to normal because my temperature has stayed high.

Yeah I spoke to the secretary who spoke to the consultant and he said he doesn't believe it has anything to do with my surgery.

My consultant changed my pill from Microgynon to Desogestrel before my surgery due to me being in increased pain following my hysteroscopy. I know they usually like you to try for at least 3 months before they change it again. So I will see if the bleeding settles after this month.

Have you still been having periods whilst on Zoladex? I hope your pain eases soon.

That's a good idea I have never thought of that... if I was looking at it from a patient perspective I would say it is an infection of some sort maybe viral due to the blood results not showing raised inflammatory markers.

Thanks again for replying hope my bloods give me some answers.

Take care xx

Let us know how the results go.

I do therapies like massage and don’t always think of the obvious when I’ve done something 😊

I’m sure consultants hate to think an op has caused issues, odds are it will happen at some point.

I’ve had two Zoladex so far, second a week ago. Had a period last month, and see what happens.

What’s your work speciality? Don’t worry if you’d prefer not to mention 🙂

So sorry I thought I had replied to this, I was just going back over my post to see if there was any further advice. Bloods were still high white cell count and lymphocytes but had reduced slightly but not much. Work told me they didn't feel it was Covid19 so I was safe to return to I stopped checking my temperature as much because I was safe to work. When I have checked my temperature recently it was 37.2 which is more acceptable. My G.P requested I did a vaginal swab to rule out infection and due to family issues I have been distracted and have not chased this up so I plan to next week.

How did you get on with your Zoladex? No more periods I hope?

Also, I work in the community.

Take care! xx

Don’t worry, life hasn’t exactly been easy recently 😊.

I’m glad your temp has come down and you’re feeling better. Worth chasing the other.

I think I annoy GP’s, they haven’t got used to people having online access to results yet.

No more periods, but I’d swear my body is trying it’s best at it, pain increases week before. Zoladex doesn’t seem to help the pain, unless it’d be a whole lot worse.

GP has arranged other tests, so far ok, now referred to gastro to check bowel out. I’m doing things in reverse 🤣, endo first, then bowel stuff.

Community nursing is very important at the best of times, your workload must have increased with people staying home.

Stay safe, don’t over do things, very easy to in your job.

Thank you! I agree about annoying the G.P I swear they recognise my number when I phone up 😂.

Glad you have had no more periods but sorry you are still struggling. Hopefully the Zoladex will settle everything down soon!

I also did things backwards (endo first then colorectal). Hope all is well with your up coming tests and you get some relief and some answers and thank you!

Take care xx
