fit test positive

I need some advice, I had a baby 6 months ago and my bowel habit has changed. I think it’s down to diet as we’ve not being great with healthy eating grabbing food etc especially when little one was tiny.

I mentioned this to the nurse and she sent me for a fit test. I did two samples 1 came back as 10 the other 21 so I’ve been flagged for a colonoscopy. These were different day samples but one after the other. My thinking was the 21 might have been a difficult strain as I was slightly constipated due to a heavy weekend of socialising but now I’m petrified it something else. And keep looking at my baby scared that I will leave her. I also have health anxiety which isn’t helping this either.

did anyone have different results with the two samples is it possible it’s a false positive they said the 10 was normal on my GP app also I’m unsure which sample is which could of it been the earlier sample where I was constipated. My heads a mess

Hi Newmummy23,

Thanks for posting with us. Congratulations on the new baby.❤️ I hope everything is going well for your family. I think your baby is going to have you around for a long time. 👍👏

Please know this … you are doing exactly what you need to be doing considering the FIT test results. What you are experiencing could be caused by a lot of different things and you just need to narrow them down. You are doing exactly that. The colonoscopy is the gold standard of finding out what’s going on and causing your symptoms.

Catching anything early is always key. Is there any evidence of disease within your family? Anything hereditary going on would be good information for your doctor to know. It could lead to some further testing that could be beneficial.

We do wish you the best in finding out the causes for what you are seeing. Please don’t let your head be a mess. Besides enjoying your baby, please focus on getting the symptoms diagnosed with the colonoscopy. It is one of the best procedures to get you the answers you are looking for.

Thank you,

~Tom, GCCA Survivor - Colon Cancer Connected Site Administrator.

Apart from prostate - grandad. Mum had a breast lump caught early and also a dodgy skin lesion.

I have stress ibs and the past few days have been terrible. My bowels are worse but I think it’s because of the endless worrying. Just so scared, for my family.

My calprotecin test was normal and also my bloods just pinning everything being down to a pile or a polyp x

Update. Today I had my colonoscopy, I worked myself up so much I nearly had a panic attack. I need to address my health anxiety more on a personal note and work on it.

Opted for gas and air, got thru it, I had to. Uncomfortable was the gas build up ( you need to fart/trump/let wind) lol

When the camera went round the corner of the bowel that was tough it felt like a sharp period cramp but I did it.

And all clear!! Yay I’m so relieved the nightmares I’ve had this week. The blood is highly likely from the skin tag which was pile I must of had in pregnancy.

Overall not too bad, I need to improve my diet , I know that lose some weight exercise and work on my sleep.

And also planning on resetting my bowel from the moviprep (bowel cleanse) with some good probiotics.

Thank you so much for you reply

Take care x

Awesome news.💪😁👏👏 I'm glad you got it done. You're tough. I just have them knock me out completely. I don't want to know or feel anything.

I like your focus and goals ... all of which you are in control of. You can do it. It can be a routine for both you and the baby.❤️

And do share your story to whomever will hear it. It's not a great procedure to have, but the information that can be obtained is huge. It's important stuff.👍
