lynstone60, this is more common then you may think. Whether it's white coat syndrome

or just looking at the b/p monitor, it gets our thoughts going in the wrong direction.

We are sensitive to our thoughts.

As someone who has taken b/p readings at the Fire Station for the community, I noticed

it was the ones who had no thoughts to their b/p that came up truly high. Those were

the people who needed it immediately addressed. As for yourself and others like you,

if your doctor feels it's okay, it's okay. He knows that in a different setting or within

a few minutes, it would be a normal reading. Bring your shoulders down and breathe

slowly and deeply when at home. Keep both feet on the ground, don't cross your legs.

Sit for a few minutes before taking your pressure. I think you will see a difference in

the readings. I hope this helps some. :) xx

I do' I have to take about 8 readings to get it anywhere near normal' am off the scale first reading! Many people suffer this, I find headphones listening to music helps.as I dont hear the machine !

If it takes that long to even half relax with it what is it during the day with other stressful events? Both mental and physical!

same with me! The sound of the machine and the anxiety of waiting for it to stop is overwhelming for me

I also have that same problem whitecoat syndrome when I go to the doctor they check my blood pressure it’s 180 something over 101. I come home in the first thing in the morning it’s like 150 something over 80 couple hours later it’s like 130 something or 120 something over 70 something or 80 something they wanna put me on a stronger dose of blood pressure medication and I’m afraid if they do that it’ll bottom my blood pressure out so I don’t wanna do it. I don’t trust any of the damn doctors anymore. I think they’re all full of shit.

Just looking at the blood pressure machine in the doctor's office makes me more anxious then I already am! I, now, have a B/P Phobia so to speak, and my doctor knows & understands & had me take my blood p. at home for two weeks (recently), and it was mostly fine at home. I have had high blood pressure for years, though, esp. in the doctor's office & have been on high blood p. medication for years. The bottom no. got too low so my doctor decreased my blood p. med., and now my B/P at home is usually around 130/65 which is okay as I am older. I still can't seem to get up the nerve to have my B/P taken in the office & esp. since last year when I was in a different state in the USA, and had a new doctor where I did have my B/P taken & it was SO high that the doctor sent me to the ER! Ever since then, I have been near "terror" to have my B/P taken in the doctor's office. I need to work on this & try & calm myself down --Not easy! So, you are Not alone with this fear!

I can't say much other than I have experienced the same. I need to buy a new BP cuff for use at home, but it is through the roof at the doctor's office.

It happens to me too. Checking me BP made me not like going to the hospital.

Hello :-)

This is very common and I think happens to so many people including myself

I have a BP monitor and what I do is make sure I never check it after I have just eaten as they say that can make it higher so always at least an hour after eating

I try and relax for at least 10 mins maybe listening to something that calms me and then I take my BP the first one can be higher even after doing that

Then I wait 5 mins and take another reading usually it has gone down the second reading and then I wait another 5 mins and take a third reading which can even have gone down more

They do say when doing your own BP to take it 3 times leaving 5 mins in between and the best reading if you were monitoring it to take that one as your reading

Not only anxiety but BP fluctuates all day depending how we feel what we have been doing

If your Doctor is happy with your readings then there is no need for any concern and trust them if they thought there was they would look at medications

Do not get upset and annoyed with yourself you feel this way as it is as I said common and the more you can accept it the less anxiety and the lower the BP :-)

Hope you will feel reassured with your replies :-) x
