I reckon that's a bit of low stress tolerance. I completely understand. Appointments, scheduled phone calls, etc, anything structured, can place a bit of stress on me which I would have shaken off or not noticed years ago, but which now CAN (but not always) affect my gut and how it behaves!

There's also a limit on how far I can drive now, or what conditions I'm driving under. No more motorways. It feels like my heart rate goes through the roof. That never used to happen. I can drive for miles and miles if I'm on roads I know, so it's not about "where are the toilets?". It's only about me not being able to cope with ramped up stress any more. I find it mildly stressful to go to town to fill up the car or if I have to go shopping for anything (usually I order online now.)

Then my belly starts complaining.

So any stress outside your comfort zone may be causing your gut symptoms? I don't quite know the fix for that. Maybe others here have some good ideas. I just do my best with my stress sensitivity and don't push myself too hard, but of course there are unavoidable situations which would be good to learn how to manage more positively.

Yes...this is pure anxiety and the fact that you haven't had to go to the surgery after your brain was certain that you would, has calmed your gut. I am exactly the same and as Luisa22 said, I have to be very careful now what kind of situations I put myself in. I hate motorways too, which aren't like they were years ago, but death traps now. Everywhere is so busy and crowded nowerdays and if there's one thing that sets off my guts, it's crowds. I try to keep life as simple and natural as I possibly can, take walks in the country and keep stress low, keep busy doing things I like. Deep breathing helps before you go anywhere that isn't in your comfort zone. Take care

I'm the same, I get really frightened going to the surgery it starts my ibs off all day. When it's all over I'm fine. So it shows you that nerves can cause you to go to the loo.
