Tapering Regime while on Kevzara (or other biologic)
I'm in the U.S. getting
Kevzara
(third injection is this Tuesday i.e. week six). I am grateful I was allowed to try
Kevzara
after 9 years on prednisone and never being able to get below 5 mg without a flare amongst other reasons.

Stopping Kevzara
I have had to stop my Sarilumab jabs, yet again, because my white cells have dropped again. I have been off the drug for over three weeks now and have heard nothing since my last blood test. I expected to feel gradually worse without it but I don't. I still have the pain and take my painkillers, but

My doctor just suggested to try
Kevzara
which I am willing to try for a while and hoping that my new diet will work so I can be off medications soon. Has anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on
Kevzara
? Has anyone have any luck with it? Thank you so much. Peace, Gucita

More pred??
The plan is to get me on
Kevzara
. Until then, 4 + weeks on 15 mg pred. For the first two weeks, I have felt better than I have in weeks - months? Now the 15 doesn't seem like enough. It's the weekend so I can't communicate with doc. Would upping to 20 be smart?

3rd Rheumy suggested this since I have such bad side effects from prednisone after 30 months. Anybody tried this $4300 stuff?

Morning Stiffness still alive and kicking after 4+ years of treatment!
Anyone have experience with
Kevzara
and also how long does it take for the adrenal insufficiency to resolve itself? Thanks for listening. You have all been very helpful through this journey!❤️

Wound healing and Steroid Use
I am waiting for approval for
Kevzara
. I have noticed that when I get a small cut or skin abrasion (which is more frequent since my skin is thinner with steroid use) It gets very red and takes a long time to heal. I used to get a cut and it would heal and be done in a couple of days.

Hello ~ New here
In Aug she started me on
Kevzara
2x mo. We then started tapper in the Prednisone 1mg every 2 wks. I usually felt the drop for a day or 2 then my symptoms would settle down. it was ok until I hit 9, all the symptoms wouldn't settle down.

Strange Question
We are waiting some test results to then add
Kevzara
to my regiment. She is very conservative with the Pred and wants me off ASAP. My question is.... have any women had extremely sore breasts associated with PMR? I just had a mammogram, so that is out of the equation.

"Scientists achieve breakthrough in treating 'neglected' polymyalgia rheumatica" - that's the headline but don't get too excited ...
utm_source=news_medical_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=rheumatology_newsletter_3_november_2023 The study is using sarilumab, aka
Kevzara
- not the first study, I'm sure Dublin did a pilot study, but the SAPHYR study is bigger.

Sick days
Of course, I am also on
Kevzara
and I don't see people in our group mentioning that, so I guess it's not yet in wide use since at least in the USA it was just recently approved for PMR. However, he did put me on a slow taper schedule, which I would not have known about were it not for you guys!

Time it takes to kick in - prednisone vs prednisilone?
I've also asked to try
Kevzara
so I can reduce my steroid dose and hopefully be able to taper down more, but this was just my first appointment with him and he wants me to get new labs done before he prescribes me a biologic. *** Oh and one more question - are prednisone and prednisolone equivalent

Vaccines & Increased Prednisone
He is prescribing me biologic,
Kevzara
because I am experiencing quite a bit of discomfort while tapering off prednisone. In anticipation of these 2 vaccines, I increased my prednisone to 10 mg today.

Had a similar experience with
kevzara
bio using a syringe applicator. Think now after my 3rd injected biologic, maybe I'm going to request jak tablets from rheumy dept, though I suspect a possible reluctance owing to higher cost,we'll see!

Biologics to treat PMR
I found this from the US in Feb 2023:
KEVZARA
® (SARILUMAB) APPROVED BY FDA AS FIRST AND ONLY BIOLOGIC INDICATED FOR PATIENTS WITH POLYMYALGIA RHEUMATICA Three times more patients treated with
Kevzara
achieved sustained remission compared to placebo in Phase 3 trial.

UTI infection
I assume this shows how my immune system is not working well now thanks to prednisone and
Kevzara
and that an infection is what will finish me off rather than the PMR. Also having a temporal biopsy tomorrow. So this is a rather anxiety-provoking week.
