can anybody here give me any advice please. Applied for the renewal of my blue badge sent off all the relevant information it came back they need more information. As I am not techno savvy my son emailed and scanned relevant information of consultants trips physio et cetera. Again.

have no received another email saying they need more information. I simply don’t know what else I can give them. I am on mobility allowance, so maybe they need more information from that area.

I am now running out of time and I fear I will not have my badge in time to be able to use it.

My husband is now touching 80 . I was just wondering if this is the start of the crackdown but the government has been talking about.

I have an appointment with my surgery concerning this situation, so I don’t know how that is going to work out. this is not an appointment with my doctor. This is somebody who is supposed to be able to help me concerning my badge all very new to me.

Information or help would be very very appreciated

Don’t worry, maybe your son could telephone & ask what sort of information they require….it is probably something very simple like a doctor’s name.

When you go to your surgery make sure you take all the information you have already submitted & ask your son to print off everything he sent too.

It will probably turn out to be something very simple.

I am baffled as surely the council should specify WHAT info they want from you, be it a letter of support from your GP or a scan/copy of a document, etc. My Council has a phone number for blue badge queries and you can ask for assistance on the application or it still had that last time I did mine a year ago. I’m not sure of if this is part of the Gov crackdown as you say. Would not surprise me. I hope your GP surgery will be able to assist. Good luck and hope it is renewed without a long wait.. My last renewal, last year took 3 weeks from my initial online application to receiving it but this is fast. I was pleasantly surprised as my local council website said it can be 3 months.

You were very fortunate. When I renewed mine last year, I started the process 12 weeks prior to expiry of my current one. Which is the earliest you can reapply. When I checked their email response time was 16 weeks. I had to go a month without mine. I even emailed with a copy of an A&E letter showing I had a severe knee injury, and was relying on a wheelchair, and asked if it could be expedited, but No, wait your turn. It was a month of hell, honestly.

It does seem to vary across the country, I know many who’ve had to attend face to face assessments, and been declined. Thankfully I’ve never had to do that, it’s always been approved. I do think they make more work for themselves, as you have to submit all the evidence each time. If you have a chronic illness, you should just have to fill in a declaration that it’s still required. So much money, spent on these agencies assessing, it’s ridiculous.

I was fortunate on that one occasion, yes. Previously, the time before last it took 4 months. 🤷‍♀️ I was unable to go anywhere unless taken to the door of a building etc., as had severe restrictions and was unable to walk. No, they don’t tend to hurry up no matter what your situation is. On the last time I went to a ftf assessment at my council offices, I had to hobble on crutches across a pedestrianised area and stop/sit on a wall and then wait for ages to be seen. Then had to stand and keep phoning to register a number with some other department, once blue badge had seen me. Very odd and difficult. Thankfully they made an online option.

Hi mobility allowance usually means automatic no refusul Look your council up online see wot it says

Sorry should have said attendance allowance. But thanks for the information.

Still finding it rather confusing though. After all the medical information I gave them

Yeh that makes a difference not automatically now You should still get it though

Good luck

I have just renewed mine again. When I was first awarded my blue badge I had to go for a face to face assessment with a lady from the council. I have since renewed it twice, basically stating nothing has changed but sending up to date copies of my prescriptions and a copy of my latest hospital letter.

This renewal took longer than the first but it was done in about 5 to 6 weeks.

oh no…it’s bad enough being disabled let alone jumping thro hoops (if only!) to get what we are rightly entitled to. Mine is due for renewal in August. Let us know how u get on 🤞

I agree if you have mobility payment or other should be simple. However when doing my mums who had many health issues, macular degeneration, heart condition, not mobile, COPD at 93 years of age it took 4 months of back and forth it was painful, I would phone and ask but take their name and contact number and email so you use that same person again for queries so they own the process. I think working from home for many has slowed the process for many items. Good luck .

This happened to me so I gave them very in depth explanation of my limited mobility, seem to need nuts & bolts of how bad our condition is. I described my worse times, it worked.

Hi I too reapplied for my blue badge, I had an email accepting the application, then an email asking for a 'photo although I had provided one, 2 days ago my money was refunded, with no explanation. I have been through the whole procedure again today because my badge is due to expire if that doesn't work I will go to the office. Could you do that, go to the council issuing office?

You have to send proof of your current mobility allowance rate when you renew your blue badge. But I agree they should state what evidence they need. higher rate of mobility entitles automatic blue badge but you need to prove current level of mobility allowance. Hope this helps.

Low rate and high rate pip mobility also entitles automatic blue badge now

Its high rate DLA for blue badge

Thank you for the update info , I get it for DLA mobility but still have to send proof when I apply . Did not realise lower rate PIP allowed you to get it automatic also especially as I am a pensioner for some years now.

It's the same distance High rate dla and low rate pip

PIP standard mobility only gives automatic entitlement to a Blue Badge if you score at least 8 points on the Moving Around activity.

Shep22 profile image
Shep22 in reply to Nuthatch

Yeh you can't get it without the 8 points

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply to Nuthatch

In the old days you needed to get 15 points to get high rate DLA mobility so that you could get a blue badge without a Drs report. After all we now pay for this badge & privilege and it is only for parking not for benefit purpose. Then there's the cost of a photo , depends how you view this matter.

Hi orange33

When I renewed mine recently, they came back and said they wanted a recent household bill, for example my rates, with my name and address on, which seemed a little silly as they had sent the renewal paperwork to me 🤷🏼‍♀️ so I just took photo and attached to their email, all happy and now have my new one only a day or so after old one ran out. So not too bad.

I hope you get yours sorted soon too.

Yes it makes you smile the amount of paperwork you have to submit , its a government department, especially as once you put a number in or date of birth all your info comes up on most goverment computers.

You could also contact Citizens Advice and they will help with application, or your son could check the info on their website. Good luck.
