Hi, the recommended amount of time to be on these injections is 6 mths as they can make your bones brittle.

Hi there,

I'm on my second set of decapeptyl treatment. My first lot was for 13 months and i've been on my second set now for 17 months and there's no discussions at the moment about stopping them.

It's a case of weighing up the risks versus you being pain free and therefore being able to live a 'normal' life. I am monitored regularly by my consultant, am given HRT to help protect my bones and have a yearly bone scan. There is a risk of decreasing bone density but you are monitored against this. I unfortunately am now osteopaenic in the lumber region of my spine so there is a risk with the treatment but saying that if i wasn't on decapeptyl i wouldn't be able to do half the activities i do now.

I would recommend you asking your consultant about it so that he/she can explain the risks properly. If you're worried about your bone density you could also ask for calcium / Vitamin D supplements from your dr to help protect you further.

Hope this help,

Katie
