Has anyone been excused from jury service because of having an MPN?I've just received a letter and I honestly can't see how I can do this with the fatigue, joint pain and the brain fog and also being immunocompromised.

Thank you.

Not for the MPN but was excused for all of the reasons you've listed because of RA. I just asked to be excused , they asked me to attend a pre visit of the court to see if it was possible, and the official I saw immediately excused me! I would get a letter from GP or Heamtologist listing your side effects just in case!!

I am currently doing jury duty. I have MF. They are aware of my condition and the symptoms, but I am still doing it

I am sure your doctor will write you an excuse if you have all those symptoms.

I have always wanted to be summoned for jury service but never summoned . Now I’m 80 + I’m not eligible on age grounds. That should be classified as discriminatory if one has all necessary faculties.

I agree, age shouldn't come in to it.

I was called for jury service last year. I explained about my health conditions online, ET and type 1 diabetes, and the associated risk of stress, infection etc. I was excused on these grounds, so I'm sure you'll be OK to be excused also. Best of luck with it all.

My husband was called up for Jury Service a few years ago. We just explain his condition and how this effected his life. Brain fog etc and he was told he did not have to attend. Which he was pleased about. He got himself so worked up over it. So just explain. X

Thank you very much. I totally understand how he felt, I'm finding myself getting worked up. Take care x

I was called 4 years ago and contacted them to explain my condition and was declared exempt. I couldn't possibly sit for hours without visits to the loo alone, all that prescribed water drinking, not forgetting the brain fog days I was contacted again last year, called the court and it was an error on their part.

Thank you. I hadn't even thought about the loo visits! X

let them know if you have trouble concentrating and brain fog. They should be concerned if they feel you can’t take in and absorb all the information

good Morning EGMumma,

Ask any of your Doctors to write a letter. My GP wrote one sentence, “Please excuse CT for medical reasons”. Best of Luck

My oncologist refused to write a letter to excuse me from jury service. However, my heavy-duty midday fatigue was probably evident as I was quickly excused from service when I reported at the appointed time of 1 PM. Really glad of that since it was a long murder trial.

Just on a Frivolous level - I’ve been on Jury Duty since September 23 as Juror 2 on tour with ‘12 Angry Men’ in our last week in York now. But even the concentration for two hours every night and four on Matinee days has been very exhausting! I think the real thing would be extremely stressful.

Yes I was immediately excused when I called the Jury number but this was during Covid. They excused with no questions asked. Kerry

Yes, I recently received a letter for jury duty. On the card, along with your service dates, there is a number to call to provide a legitimate reason for not being able to serve. I chose not to call at that time. A few weeks later, I was called to appear in person at the courthouse along with many others. Once in the court room and after an explanation of the case we would be serving on, the judge asked that anyone who felt they were unable to serve whether for health reasons, or other reasons affecting their service, to fill out a specific form including details and she would review the form while we were there.I was excused that day from service, no questions asked.

That's good she excused you. I've filled in the online form, just waiting to hear now.
