What to take to my laparoscopy

I finally have a date for my investigative laparoscopy!!

And I’m thinking what did people find useful to have with them on the day, or have after surgery?

I know peppermint tea is meant to be helpful!

Any advice on things you found helpful or didn’t please 🙏 😊

I didn't take much for mine aside from some loose fitting comfortable clothes, and stuff for an overnight stay if I had needed it (was discharged later same day thankfully!). I also took some snacks and drinks because...snacks! Didn't have much appetite but it was nice to know they were there.

I have heard of women taking things for comfort like their own pillows, Something cosy like a dressing gown, I was given some compression socks, but you might want to make sure you have your own if you'd prefer?

Speak to consultant/doctor about pain relief guidance for afterwards?

Hi Frankie,

I recommend:

Water bottle,

Peppermint tea bags,

Eye mask, (this is a must)

Big baggy long t-shirt (don't even think about anything with a waist band.

Book,

Puzzle book,

Portable battery phone charger,

Headphones

Ear plugs,

Fluffy socks,

Dressing gown,

Pillow (especially for the drive home between your seatbelt and you)

Blanket (it gets cold in hospital)

Makeup/baby wipes, (just good even to freshen you up)

Some snacks you love! And easy to eat, in case you don't like the hospital food.

Smoothies

Leaving hospital outfit (I worse the big baggy size xxxl t-shirt out with sliders and sunglasses to hide my cry eyes - Beautiful!

I found having one of those U shape airplane pillows so handy in the hospital, great little additional comfort.

Pack everything super organised and make sure everything is easily accessable for when you return from theatre.

Good luck I hope it all goes well!

good luck for your laparoscopy. I’d recommend bringing your own water/ soft drinks. I am always incredibly thirsty with a dry mouth after anaesthetic and the hospital only hand out tiny cups of water. Peppermint oil capsules are quite useful too. Some overnight things, they may keep you in depending what they find or do during the lap. Loose fitting cotton clothes/ pyjamas. You’ll likely be asleep a lot after the surgery but maybe some magazines to pass the time when waiting to go into surgery or be discharged. Good luck ❤️

hun take loose fitting clothes , sanitary towels , a soft pillow to put across you when you go home so your belt doesn’t dig in. Maybe take you favourite nibbles too. You should be discharged after procedure later on in the day. X

I took loose, comfortable clothes to wear home. Leggings & a baggy, longline jumper, also some cosy socks as I feel the cold & tend to have low blood pressure usually after surgery/anesthetic. I packed pads & also spare knickers & pjs just case I had to stay overnight, but it usually is a day case. Good to be prepared tho! Peppermint tea is good. The hospital nurses made me some of those when I came round. My husband also packed me some snacks ❤️ I am fussy & not always keen on hospital food! Good luck ✨
