Hi beady, I think there is an opinion that they can make a very negative change to RLS symptoms. If you type in the search box at the top of the page 'cholesterol statins' you will find at least four threads chatting about what you are asking.

I know some of them - SImvastatin for one can cause a lot of pain they are not great drugs and are pushed by some Drs on people who have normal cholesterol, (my fathers was lower than mine and the Dr put him on them causing a hell of a lot of discomfort).

In my humble opinion if you can get the cholesterol under control by diet, ( that includes getting rid of alcohol and stress- manage that with RLS!), you would be much better off.

But to answer your question I would imagine any drug that changes something in your body could impact negatively - what are you experiencing? I have found acupuncture has made my RLS worse the night after getting it!!

Thanks Raffs went to docs today I am having blood test next Tues so then I will know

YES, cholesterol meds are absolutely notorious for causing RLS. They are very dangerous drugs that will destroy your muscles and your memory. I watched my mother deteriorate because of those things, and she had RLS too. Research is proving the dangers of that stuff yet doctors continue to prescribe them. You don't need those drugs at all- you need cholesterol for brain function. There are loads of books and websites now that prove that the whole cholesterol scare is wrong, that we've been told stuff based on faulty research for years now. Eat your eggs, and get off those drugs!!!

The Drs are getting 'incentives' from drug reps - I've seen it so many times its absolutely obscene.

The statins should be avoided and cholesterol taken down through diet, exercise and meditation. Ask the Dr what you need to do to take the cholesterol down without meds and judge his/her reaction.

The problem with the statin meds is not a problem necessarily linked to RLS. Statins can cause actual muscle damage to your legs, and can cause lots of pain. Went thru that with my mother, her leg pain was so bad that she could barely walk. I fought with her doctor to get her off the statins, and onto another class of cholesterol med. Within 6 months she was back to normal, and she BARELY has RLS, before or after the statins. The general idea is that once you stop taking these, the muscle damage repairs itself. And leg muscles do not have anything to so with RLS, RLS is neurological.

Hi Beady3 I was on Symvastatin for 3yrs and slowly weaned myself off them. I began to see a significant improvement within no time although I still suffer rls but not half as bad. I manage it by taking warm foot baths before bed and use a magnesium spray. Hope this helps x
