Hello everyone. Can someone be kind enough to advise me on where I stand with rls and any future offers of employment. Looking for work after xmas and don't know if I have to declare it before an offer has been made, or can they turn me down if I do indeed declare it. Cheers.

I have been a Quality Technician within the food industry so thats what i would be looking at. Thank you.

They can't turn you down it would be discriminating! I would declare it incase of future occurances of your rls and doc appointments ect. And that way if you need to move around they have to understand why you have to.

Did you know about the cards you can get for RLS they are called Medical Alert Cards if you had one you could show your employer the idea being you can move around. Go onto WWW.ris-uk.org good luck x

Following on from Beady3's comment, if you would like one of the cards go to RLS-UK.org and become a member - you will get the card free plus more information and the regular newsletter which will keep you updated about new happenings in the world of RLS.

They may or may not be able to refuse you employment because you have RLS but then if you can do this job without any detrimental effects on your performance and providing there are no signs visible to other employees then nobody needs to know. On the other hand they may not consider you for employment if you have been found to be lying. How about declaring your illness to your new employer after you have been working there for say 3 months. Still a bit naughty though

Do you know for sure that any application form will ask for details of medical conditions. This is usually information held only by your doctor and is private. I suppose your prospective employer maybe looking at what special facilities need to be put in place for anyone disabled.

I would never declare RLS as an illness that would affect employment. You do not have to declare . Get the job!

It is a condition rather than a disease. If the employer has a Medical Insurance Program as we mostly do with big companies in the U.S.A. and they will pay for your treatment and Meds, then you should mention it so a pre existing does not preclude the expenses for the treatment, because it is chronic and won't ever spontaniously just go away.

If you have Socialized Medicine then telling them is un necessary since if treatment is good, it won't affect job perfrmance. The decision I would make would hang on the two conditions I mentioned above.

I would declare it too. If you are taking any meds for your RLS, that could affect your work depending on what the job is. As in would your meds make you sleepy, slow you down etc etc. If you have bad nights that you are sleep deprived and try to work, or cant get to work. It could go against you if a problem came up at work and they dont know what you have.
