Dehydration and electrolyte .imbalance

Summer is here and from where I sit it's arrived with "Malice Aforethought" and it's up to no good.

I'm spending more time out of doors these hot days and I live in a dry climate zone . Perspiration happens but due to the low humidity we don't sweat here like in other climates.. It evaporates with out helping keep us cool. With that we (I) often don't keep up with rehydration. Adults especially older adults are the most at risk for dehydration.

I'm attaching a link to an article I found that gives a quick and easy to absorb (see what I did there?) information about prevention and intervention when it comes to dehydration. Admins. feel free to delete this post If it's not "allowed" due to what ever rules....

Hi Hidden ,

Thank you for sharing the article about electrolytes. Very interesting information and helpful for this time of year.

I drink a lot of water every day because I don't want to get dehydrated and I'm on some medication that says that a person can take with plenty of water and food (depending on what the medication is).

It's a double edged sword withmeds and deyhdration.. Too little water you run the risk of dehydration and medication toxicity and too much Hydration you run the risk of diluting the meds and or "flushing "them out.... Balance as always is the key.

Yes, you always want to be careful and balance medication and amount of daily water intake so you don't dehydrate and have medication issues at the same time.

I saw your 'absorb' pun from a mile away. Tsk tsk...make a point to hydrate or I'll send the firefighters up the mountain to hose you down. Also, you can do a quick diy electrolyte drink to bring them up when you're feeling dehydrated.

LOL You are the only one who responded pun..That threat of getting hosed down sounds good right now! I keep some ready pack if a rehydration powder that mixes in water handy when I worked outside Living in Fort Stinkin' Desert, Arizona for approx half of my life taught me how to avoid becoming " beef jerky "I like sharing I've learned.

I'll be expecting my golden award in the mail. Looks like you've got yourself well prepared to handle any dehydration

in reply to Imaaan

LOL I will send your award via " snail mail " better late than never. I've been on the downside of dehydration once. I'm really cautious now
