You sound so stressed! Relax and take a deep breath. You know how your heart beat has two distinctive sounds, the LUB and the DUB. Well, a heart murmur is an extra sound at the beginning or the end of either the LUB or the DUB and it is usually detected by listening through a stethoscope. Most heart murmurs are innocent, meaning they don't cause any problems. Sometimes these extra sounds, caused by the way the blood rushes through the valves of the heart happen because the valve does not function properly or because of some underlying heart disease. Much of the time there is no treatment required, sometimes a heart murmur requires that you take antibiotics before dental or other procedures and sometimes if serious, may require surgery to repair a valve. Try not to worry. Ask them to explain what kind of murmur you have. You may need some additional testing like an echocardiogram. I hope that helps.

Thank you very much, I am having an echocardiogram to look at the mumour in three weeks. So will ask the question, if I can. I have some pain in the extreme left side of the heart;, I gues there is a faulty valve. I told this to the Cardio doctor some months ago, but he ignored me. The murmour was discovered in hospital recently with a lung infection, by the lung doctor, who initiatised the test. Thank you.
