I came face-to-face with my abuser

Two weeks ago my spouse and I were in Home Depot picking up some material for a project. While he was on an aisle looking for something, I went to another department and picked up a couple of things. When I returned to the him, I forgot which aisle he was on so I turned down a random aisle to make my way towards the front of the store... as soon as I turned down the aisle, the person who abused me years prior (culminating in shooting a gun at me) was walking towards me with someone. We met eyes, he winked and kept walking....

...time seemed to slow down and everything around me went quiet and I felt numb. I turned to look back (not believing my eyes- or luck) and it was indeed the person...

...I found my spouse, told him what happened, left my items with him and left the store. Since we met there after work I drove my own car home (very fast).

I cannot believe that I came face-to-face with this person. Of all the places, times, and aisles, they were on the ONE I had to turn down. It made me feel weird. I did not have a panic attack (though I felt like it was developing in my chest!) and remained somewhat calm. It brought back so much, even memories I forgot about.

Ugh.

My therapist would call this being re traumatized. Just one look and it all comes racing back. I know what this feels like and I'm so sorry this happened to you.

What an arrogant ill person to wink at you, intimidation tactic, which would have knocked me for a loop.

I'm glad you got home safely. How are you doing now?
