Decaf coffee and PD?

Looks like a chemical used to decaffeinate some coffee is a potential neurotoxin. I used to drink two or three cups of decaf Folgers daily. Is this how I got PD?

Most manufacture have stopped using methylene chloride...

Regulators are considering a rule that would ban the use of methylene chloride, a solvent used to decaffeinate coffee beans. The liquid is used in multiple industries, including paint removal and manufacturing, and the CDC says exposure can cause drowsiness, dizziness, numbness and tingling limbs, and nausea. usatoday.com/story/money/fo...

too bad this information didn't come out earlier- in the 1990s I was told by a customer that he was selling decaf coffee that was produced using no chemicals using a steam method but at the time I did not realize the long term implications of this- He did give us a sample of his coffee and it was good but since I mostly drank coffee with caffeine I didn't end up using this coffee- He used to come in and ship out packages of the product

Even more sad when you consider that research has repeatedly shown that caffeine intake is associated with a reduced risk of the disease. The effect is likely more related to caffeine than to coffee beans. Caffeine from other sources also appears to have a protective effect, while decaffeinated coffee does not provide protection...

There are websites that list decaf coffee companies that don't use chemical solvents. I go for Nescafe decaf as I find it all over the world.

It's not just coffee nor PD" Widely used in bathtub refinishing and paint stripping, methylene chloride is “known to cause liver cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, brain cancer, cancer of the blood, and cancer of the central nervous system, as well as neurotoxicity, liver harm and even death"

I’ve heard that coffee plants are the most heavily sprayed with pesticides. I’m trying to get my husband to give up coffee, at least for a month to see if there’s any changes. All our food are adulterated. Sad.

One more reason to switch to organic coffee for you and fair trade for those who have to do this monk's work of picking for a starvation wage.

So is decade organic coffee ok/helpful with PD?

Decaf organic coffe is ok, but caffeine is the speculated reason for the protective effect of coffee. Nevertheless, black tea had a more modest association with age at onset (AAO), likely due to a lower amount of caffeine, which would further explain the strong correlation between a longer black tea drinking duration and a later AAO.

Earlier, specific research had already been done on decaf coffee, which indeed showed that you really need the caffeine to reduce the risk of PD:

“An inverse association was also observed with consumption of coffee, caffeine from noncoffee sources and tea, but not decaffeinated coffee.
