I just wondered if someone could tell me if Anoro Ellipta has an accumulative effect. I was diagnosed with emphysema a few months ago and have been using Anoro for the last 3 weeks - nothing has improved. Maybe someone could suggest something better I could talk to my doctor about or should I just be patient! Many thanks for any advice/help or info .....

ANORO ELLIPTA
Hi Winton and welcome to the site. I cant answer your question as I dont have emphysema, but can say it took me quite a while to find the right inhaler. I am sure a few will come back to you with answers or you could perhaps use the search box which will show previous questions on the subject. Hope you find something soon x
Will do - thank you
It would be great if someone could recommend the best inhaler for emphysema ....
I take Trellegy instead of Anoro to prevent flareups , and always carry ventolin with me everywhere.
everyone responds differently to treatments. What works for some else may not be the best option for you.
With the caveat that I’m not medically qualified. My understanding is the effect with this particular inhaler is cumulative, so it requires regular dosing to maintain effect, and may take some time to build up as a result, but I would have hoped you’d be noticing some benefit after 3 weeks of consistent use. Hopefully some other members will come along and give their own experiences, but I’d suggest if you’re not starting to see any benefit at all after 4 weeks to check in with whoever is in charge of managing your condition and ask for their guidance. As Izb1 says, inhalers in lung conditions are often horses for courses, and finding the right one can take some time.
Thank you very much - very helpful and will book appointment with doc in a couple of weeks if no improvement
Hi, I was recently diagnosed with emphysema and was given Fostair and it was OK but I had two flare ups which were awful , when I went to see my Consultant he changed it to Trimbow and this has been much better for me but it did the about 4 weeks to see the benefits, hope this helps and take care of yourself.
Thank you very much and glad you are better
hello, i use Anoro Elipta for copd but i don’t have emphysema. Anoro works for me apart from slight palpitations for a few mins after using it.
If you see no improvement soon i would contact your GP or respiratory nurse. There should be an inhaler that will suit you.
Take care.
have emphysema and after trying various inhalers I take spiolto respimat, I was given trimbow but did not get on well with it, my consultant changed me back to spiolto respimat and said it was the best for emphysema if you are not having exacerbations, but if you are having exacerbations you need to have a steroid too. My breathing is the best it has ever been, I find the aerosol type easier to inhale. Hope this helps
I have taken Anoro Elipta for the last 5 years. I know I have not been sick, and absolutely no problems. I am afraid to quit for that reason. My doctor gave me permission to maybe use it every other day and I tried. For some reason, I felt like I was getting congested, so after a week I started back up every day. My doctor also told me I could switch, because I was wondering if I could get a cheaper one. But I do not know what would be. So I plan to follow this thread to maybe learn what are other options. I tried a couple others at the beginning. One actually took me to the emergency room. So this actually has worked for me.
I am afraid to quit this since I have not been sick since 2018. This is very expensive, will pay this just to not get sick. Good luck Wintonhouse.
, it may sound daft but have you checked that you're taking it corrcorrectly? Either check the leaflet or the makers website for a video of correct way. Good luck. P
I forgot to ask, is it a spray type or powder inhaler? It's always preferable to use a spacer with the spray type (MDI), in doing so you get 50% more of the medication . If you weren't given one with the inhaler you can purchase one at the chemist
that’s so kind of you - it’s a powder inhaler ……. Does it work with that one ?
Ok will ask Doc about Fostair MDI if Anoro not making a difference in a week or so ..... Thank you! all very hopefull .....
