Citalopram to Mirtazapine

I wanted to provide an update on my experience with the 15mg dosage of mirtazapine. Initially, during the first week of taking it, I felt remarkably calm, capable of managing stressful situations effectively, and experienced improved productivity. Additionally, my sleep quality notably improved. I felt so happy... I was smiling watching my son play football. However, during the second week, I began experiencing concerning symptoms. I've been feeling shortness of breath, body aches, and chest pain, which have made breathing difficult, it's been a struggle just to tie my shoe laces. Furthermore, I've noticed increased agitation and feeling drained throughout the day.

I wanted to mention that I ceased taking 10mg citalopram on the same day I began mirtazapine as advised by the doctor. Given the timing, I'm uncertain whether the symptoms I experienced during the first week on mirtazapine were due to the medication itself, withdrawal from citalopram, or a combination of both. Brain zaps have been quite bad as well....

I don't know whether to just stop the Mirtzazapine and go back on Citalapram

When I changed to mirtazapine from sertraline I didn't have a gap on my doctors advice non was needed , I shared that so you'd know I'd been given the same advice x saying that I didn't experience bad side effects just hunger and sleepiness. So you should definitely check that out with your doctor x good luck and let us know what happens. Information about medication and side effects are informative on here as many in our community are taking medications x

l felt terrible on citalopram so was on sertraline instead.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your responses. After consulting my doctor, he recommended increasing my Mirtazapine dose to 30mg. However, due to concerns about potential agitation and outbursts, especially as a school teacher, I opted not to take the risk. Instead, he suggested I could return to 10mg of Citalopram and possibly increase to 20mg after two weeks.

To be honest, during the first week of transitioning from Citalopram to Mirtazapine, I experienced a profound sense of calm and happiness. While this lasted for a good 8 days, it's possible it was influenced by improved sleep from Mirtazapine and the Citalopram still being in my system. Perhaps focusing on improving my sleep could help recreate that feeling of contentment, and then increasing the Citalopram dose to 20 mg might achieve similar results. It's hard to tell if it was genuine or simply a placebo effect. Maybe upping Mirtazapine to higher dose would have been the answer, but I don't think it's worth the risk.

I had exactly the same experience on mirtazapine which wasn't good for me because I have heart disease and asthma x hope you can get put on a different medication.

Hello, so I've been back on 10mg of Citalopram. All the side effects I was feeling from either coming off one and starting the other (Mirtazapine) have gone.

My question is and still doctors just ignore when I say this, two days after switching tablets I felt a calmness, no stress and easier to navigate my life, this lasted for a week before those side effects started. What was happening to my body and why can't I get back to that state? I was happy and it really upsets me that I can't have that feeling again.

With Citalopram, I'm not sure if it is or was working, but being back on it was much better than dealing with switching to Mirtazapine.

Thanks
